Partners for Democratic Change (Partners) has launched the Accountable Governance for Justice and Security (AGJS) project, with the goal to build more accountable institutions in both Nigeria and Sierra Leone by enhancing institutional transparency and preventing impunity for those who engage in corruption and transnational organized crime (TOC). This project has been renamed the Access Nigeria/Sierra Leone Program (AcessNG-SL)

The AcessNG-SL, supported by the US Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL), focuses on accountability and transparency of the justice and security sectors in each country, building on Partners’ rich and unique experience working with diverse stakeholders around the world to build more open and effective justice and security sectors.

The comprehensive strategy of the AcessNG-SL program includes traditional approaches such as promoting the passage and implementation of Freedom of Information laws and training and support for investigative journalists, as well as innovative methods such as ICT-based data collection and dissemination solutions and a number of activities around the Open Government Partnership (OGP) principles. The AcessNG-SL team addresses transparency and accountability issues within the justice and security sectors from a variety of angles, with a view towards measurable impact and long-term sustainability.

Partners’ local collaborators on the AcessNG-SL program are CLEEN Foundation, a respected Nigerian organization with 20 years experience working on a range of Nigerian reform initiatives with strong relationships with the justice and security sectors, and Campaign for Good Governance, an innovative Sierra Leonean organization with over 10 years of experience working on government reform, citizen engagement, and public awareness programs. In addition to this, Partners has convened a strong team of local and international experts and partner organizations including the Institute for War & Peace Reporting (IWPR) and BudgIT to promote international best practices in transparent, accountable and effective governance that can be flexibly adapted and applied in Nigeria and Sierra Leone. Partners is excited to build on partnerships, as well as our deep institutional knowledge of justice and securityissues, to lead the dynamic AcessNG-SL program, and to make a lasting contribution to justice and security in Nigeria and Sierra Leone.
